Fun things to do near me in the Hudson Valley in the late summer

As the summer winds down, some big annual events have returned to the Hudson Valley, from the NY Air Show to the hot air balloon festival. Be aware, that rules around mask wearing and vaccination status could change at any time, so please check with the venue website before you go.

Here’s a look at what’s coming. We will update this list:

2021 New York International Air Show, Aug. 28, 29

For the second year in a row, the show will be held at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery. Among the lineup will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as headliners featuring the U.S. Air Force 22 Raptor Demo Team, the West Point Parachute Team, F-18 Rhino Demo Team, an Air Force Heritage Flight, a Navy Legacy Flight, aerobatic pilot Mike Wiskus, and more. Tickets start at $32.50. The website notes that wearing a facial covering is optional, but recommended if you are not vaccinated. For updated show info, go to airshowny.com.

Hundreds of people showed up at the Dutchess County Fair on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019.

Dutchess County Fair, Aug. 24-29

The Dutchess County Fair is back with excellent festival foods, music performances, contests and more. Be sure to stop by the agricultural and 4-H exhibits — there’s nothing cuter than watching young children pamper and prep their animals for showtime. Masks will be required for those not vaccinated. Dutchess County Fairgrounds, 6550 Springbrook Ave., Rhinebeck; 845-876-4000; visit dutchessfair.com.
